10 reasons to take dance classesEditor's note: This was originally posted in April 2015 and has been updated and revamped for accuracy.

Dancing is all the rage these days. Dancers are all over television, in movies, and out in the streets in flash mobs and performance art pieces. You can go to theatres and see dancers telling stories, or head on over to your local dance studio and see dancers training for social and competitive events! Why is everyone doing it? Here are the top 10 reasons:

1: Dance Classes Relieve Stress

We hear students testify to this every day. We see it when they walk out of our group classes wiping sweat from their brows, all smiles after having drilled Merengue turns and Salsa steps for forty minutes!

You can run to relieve stress, or perhaps lift weights. You can do gymnastics or even learn to swordfight. Any of these things will make you sweat. Will any of them help you meet a wonderful new person on a dance floor? Will any of them make you attractive at a party? Wouldn’t count on it!

2: Dance Classes Step Your Social Game Up

dance lessons socialHow do dance classes make you more attractive at a party? That’s what you’re thinking, isn’t it? The answer is simple: Confidence! Confidence! Confidence! Dancing is such a fun and social activity that it can’t help but rub off on your social life. If you can manage to make friends at our studio (and you’ll make many friends here!), the skills you learn will be in your pocket no matter where you go.

When you buy perfume, eventually the perfume runs out. Fancy clothing gets stained and fades over time. When you get dance lessons, the fun only multiplies over time!

3: Dance Classes Teach You The Most Important Social Lesson

If I had to choose the most important thing dancing teaches my students, I’d choose this: Fake it until you make it!  At first, dancers can hardly put two steps together, but the ones who look best, even at that early stage, are the ones who put their personality into their dancing no matter how bad they think they might look. One day the steps do come to them, but because the personality was always there to begin with they don’t just dance well, they flourish!

Dance lessons teach you to be yourself, and that skill applies to much more than just dancing!

4: Dance Classes Make You Part of any Community

There are two sorts of people in the world: dancers and onlookers. Right now you might be an onlooker. It gets pretty boring after a while, doesn’t it? Come learn how to dance and you can jump that divide. It’s a simple promise, but an easy one to keep. Dancers are in the thick of fun, no matter the scenario!

5: Dance Classes Break You Out of the Funk

dance lessons break you out of a funkIs your job sucking away your soul? Is family life getting you down? Do you feel like a car whose headlights are fading, like the way ahead is getting more and more dim? Life shouldn’t ever stop being fun, and there’s no excuse to let it become dull. We have students ages 9 to 95. Dancing isn’t restricted to any age group, any social status, any gender, any orientation or life situation.

Anyone can harness the vital power of dance to shake up their life. If you’re stuck in a funk, dance it out!

6: Dance Classes Improve Your Health

I could slap down ten articles you probably won’t read about the crazy health benefits of an active lifestyle. I can tell you about how light impact exercise stimulates little-used muscles, how it can improve joint health, spine alignment and even your very mood. But let’s be honest, you know that already. If you’ve never read a single study about the health benefits of dancing you know dancing is good for you like a dog knows to run after a frisbee.

It’s dancing. It’s as natural to a human body as walking!

7: Dance Classes Kindle Romance

dance lessons kindle romanceDid you think I wouldn’t go there? Why not? We’re all adults here and we know that happy marriages and relationships make for happy lives. Dancing can be so charged with sensuality and romance, it would be a crime to ignore this benefit of dance classes.

You’ll hold each other close, touch and caress one another as you lead and follow through the steps. You’ll flirt through salsa and cha-cha and glide through rumba and bolero and, when you get back home...well, I think you know.

8: Dance Classes Help You Organize Your Priorities

At Arthur Murray, every dance class is geared toward helping you achieve your goals in dancing and in life. We provide an airtight framework to get you to where you want to be, and that framework can help you to help yourself in many different scenarios. I can’t tell you how many students have come to me personally and thanked me for helping them see how easy goal setting can be.

Don’t be one of those people who are content with the status quo. Stay hungry for a better and more full life. We can show you how!

9: Dance Classes Are All About You

We spend so much of our lives serving others, and that’s not a bad thing. Helping our community and our loved ones makes us better and stronger people but, even still, it’s nice to be the center of attention every once in a while.

When you come to your Arthur Murray dance class the focus is on you. We’re here to make you better and happier every second you’re in our studio. That’s why our students consider their dance classes the highlight of their week.
